Instructor

Ian Tullis

itullis@stanford.edu

I’m a second-year Master’s student in Theory, and I left industry after almost a decade as a software engineer to pursue my dream of teaching CS. At Google, I worked on the Code Jam programming contest and on Search; prior to that, I got degrees in chemistry and environmental science. I’ve played in and run puzzle hunts and trivia games for many years, and I also love history, Japanese literature, movies, probability/combinatorics, tabletop RPGs, weightlifting, and wildlife. (SCPD/NDO students, I’ve been there, so feel free to reach out!)

Course Assistants

Goli Emami

golrokh@stanford.edu

I’m a first year Master’s student in theoretical computer science. I was also an undergraduate at Stanford (class of 2021) where I studied computer science (major-AI track) and economics (minor).

I go by Goli though my full name is Golrokh Emami.

I did competitive programming in high school and undergrad and that was my intro to CS.

I’m interested in a lot of things, from building products, XR,  AI applications etc. to very theoretical things like complexity theory and quantum computing, and outside of CS I’m interested in hiking, photography, driving in random scenic roads (not so random walks) and learning to play golf and tennis - basically I love being outdoors. I also enjoy talking to people and get to know everyone so please make me happy by talking to me a lot :)

I’m an international student so apologies for my terrible accent, spelling, and grammatical errors in advance.

Ivan Villa-Renteria

ivillar@stanford.edu

I’m a coterm student in the CS department studying AI with a background in Theory. I’m also an instructor for Inspirit AI, a program which teaches high schoolers about AI. I briefly worked at a social media startup as a Data Scientist/ML Engineer late last year, and this spring I worked at SVL on a project exploring embodied AI agents in virtual environments. My interests mainly include deep learning for music and art generation, and I also have additional interests in both theoretical and interpretable deep learning. In my free time, I like to cook and play electric guitar. If you’d like to talk about any of these things feel free to reach out to my email!

Lucas Xia

lxia12@stanford.edu

I’m a first-year Masters student in CS, who is interested in cryptography and algorithms. I love competitive programming and I compete for the Stanford ICPC team! In my free time, I like bouldering, playing poker, and watching sports.

Ricky Grannis-Vu

rickygv@stanford.edu

I’m a co-term Master’s student in AI, and I love researching and teaching cool topics in AI and HCI. Right now, I’m investigating ways to create common ground between human and machine co-workers, and before that I worked on the PolicyKit governance project at the University of Washington and spent 16 months teaching AI to high-school students (very fun!). I love traveling, board games, escape rooms, poetry, and trying out new restaurants!

Rishu Garg

rishu@stanford.edu

I’m a first year Master’s Student at the Institute of Computational and Mathematical Engineering (ICME). I chose ICME over CS as I love working in inter-disciplinary fields and applied mathematics and right now, I am devoted in finding my niche at Stanford. At some point in my life, I’d definitely like to be a lecturer. I am a fan of watching Tennis, long-drives and playing Pokemon. I’ve been through some tough times in my life, so if you find yourself in the same boat then feel free to reach out if you need anything from my end.

Ziang Liu

ziangliu@stanford.edu

I’m a first year Master’s student in Computer Science, with a research focus on robot learning and motion planning for long horizon manipulation tasks. I love skiing, birding, and hiking, and have been birding since I was 13. Feel free to reach out to chat if you are also a fan of those : )
